Signature Test Chambers

Chromeria's test cells are not just puzzles — they are reflections of the planar warping at the heart of the facility. Each one is a self-contained scenario designed to test, strain, or reprogram the characters… and maybe reveal fragments of who they once were. Here are a few standout chambers from the scenario:
Feywild Riddle Contest

The players must navigate impossible questions posed by a silver-skinned fey entity — the answers shape the nature of the trial itself.✦ Player-tested: Ended in a legendary roll that instantly altered the encounter’s tone. The players really liked the atmosphere and how fluid and atmospheric the environment felt.
Illithid Cavern

A dark tunnel network stalked by mind flayers. Strange insects scattered throughout the caves temporarily numb higher brain functions, rendering the characters invisible to psionic detection — but at a steep sensory and narrative cost.✦ Result: In play, this devolved into direct combat — highlighting the need for more adaptive tension. Still a strong environmental concept.
The Predator

An invisible sniper stalks the players in a lush jungle full of deadly elevation, alternate escape routes, and illusion-casting fauna. Players can descend into tunnels to avoid exposure — at the risk of encountering worse.
The Chessboard

Before stepping into this arena, players must choose symbolic roles: knight, bishop, king, etc. Gear and form shift to match their self-perception — or self-deception. The chamber becomes a living cosmic chess game, with movement and combat shaped by archetype.
Minesweeper Sequence

A series of rooms filled with shifting floor glyphs. Players must decode patterns while under threat — initial mistakes trigger minor hazards (kobolds, gas), but later rooms unleash beholders, liches, or worse.Optional: glyphs hint at the metaphysical “language” of Chromeria’s navigation system.
Groundhog Banquet

A formal dinner in a cursed mansion — and every time the toast is made, everyone dies. The loop resets. The players must solve the murder, uncover the metaphysical reason for the loop, and possibly confront their own presence at the event.
Strygia Conflict Zone

This shattered chamber is no longer a test — it’s a battleground. Blood magic pulses through broken machinery as demonic factions clash over a failed experiment. Players must choose whom to assist, navigate clashing philosophies of order and chaos, and confront Krom, an emergent entity with echoes of Alastor’s forgotten past.✦ This event marks the transition from test subjects to active agents. After Strygia, players gain access to the wider facility, its navigation system, and the greater mystery of Chromeria itself.Designer’s notes: The Strygia event should at the latest be the third test chamber encountered. My player’s noted that they liked the atmosphere but were starting to get tired by the linearity of it all by that point.
